The annual butterfly release at the Conservatoria is one of our favorite traditions. It feels like spring it right around the corner when we let our butterflies join the hundreds of others in the South Conservatory. It has always marked the beginning of the spring season for me.
Today, the kids selected butterflies and we inched our way through the crowds of people stopped in their tracks, phones and cameras out, watching the butterflies. Esther-Faith chose a butterfly with transparent wings, called a "glass wing," and Isaac chose a butterfly with a red stripe on the outside and blue wings on the inside.
We found a place to settle and release the butterflies. Isaac named his "Streak" and Esther-Faith named her butterfly "Tiffany" after the stained glass company. We coaxed the butterflies from the safety of their containers onto our fingers, and finally onto flowers. Then, we took in as much of the Conservatoria as we could--checking out the fairy gardens and the new exhibits--before we hit the gift shop and headed home.
If you've never done it, we highly recommend the butterfly release at the conservatoria. There is no feeling like that of a butterfly tip-toeing along your finger in search of something sweet to eat. Or the surprise and euphoria when they finally take flight.

I've never heard of this, but need to look for one closer to home. Lovely pictures of Isaac and Esther-Faith, who looks so grown up. Take good care!
