A visit with Papa

If you follow my mom's blog (swedishmama.blogspot.com), you know what a roller coaster my dad's health has been lately. After the latest round of infections that landed dad back in the hospital--during which my mom was forced to consider palliative and hospice care--we found ourselves spending as many tender moments at dad's bedside as possible.

He is doing okay these days. Some days are better than others, but each time I talk to him, Dad seems to be in good spirits and wants to know all about the kids. While we try not to overwhelm him with the entire family all at the same time, every couple of days, one of us will sneak up to see him with a couple of the kids for a short visit.

Last Sunday, Dad was doing really well, and so we stayed for a long while. Mom was there, and it was nice to be all together in one place. Reminiscent of the Sunday nights we used to have before Dad got so sick two years ago.

I shared our St. Lucia, Christmas, and New Year's photos with dad.

Yep, that's my boy. Head and shoulders taller than his Grammy.

Mimi took Isaac and Esther-Faith to visit
all of the fish in the nursing home.
Some of the other residents love to see my kids.
The fish, not so much.

Usually when we get there, the kids like to get close for a while.
The kids can no longer climb up into his bed to get hugs. But each
visit before we leave, Dad takes their hands and prays with them.
