We've been in lock-down, high intensity, prep mode for Christmas. In past years, I have had my baking done by now. I started it yesterday. It seems more difficult to get stuff done while my right-hand helper sleeps. Today, he was five hours late coming home from work. FIVE HOURS. When he got home, he spoke a few words in our general direction, and then he crashed. After a few hours of sleep (no mom, he didn't get enough), he got up so we could make some cut-out cookies together.
I made him a pot of coffee.
He drank it all.
And we had some cut-out, love-cookie fun.
Scratch that. I think four of us had fun. The teenager was brooding for much of the evening. (Shocking. I know.)
It became especially fun when Esther-Faith abandoned the idea of making cut-out cookies and instead created an igloo out of discarded dough. She decorated it with a smiley face made out of raisins. When they didn't get enough cut-out cookie fun, Tim and Isaac whipped a triple batch of Love cookie dough. Leaving out the vanilla. (Who needs that anyway?)
By the end of the evening, there was flour and sugar flying just about everywhere. I've filled the dustpan twice.
But I think everyone had fun. Even the brooding teenager. (Although, I'm not sure he would admit it.)
